HOME > FUTURE MOBILITY LIFE

When proposing future car-based lifestyles at the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota Motor Corporation undertook a new initiative to revise the content of those proposals based on communication with customers starting from the planning stage. One of the communication tools used was Toyota Metapolis, a three-dimensional, online virtual city that opened in October of last year. It succeeded in proposing a future car-based lifestyle that is completely unprecedented not only in terms of the plan proposed but also with regard to the format used.

This initiative from Toyota Motor Corporation began in July of this year.
The stage was Toyota Metapolis, a website operated by Toyota that has about 100,000 virtual residents. Toyota held three virtual forums in the Toyota Metapolis under a project entitled the Toyota Future Car Life Laboratory. Approximately 6,000 customers participated and exchanged their opinions. On the virtual forums, images and three-dimensional objects were used, and following a discussion of the elements of the future car-based lifestyles proposed by Toyota, those lifestyles were created within Toyota Metapolis.

The final virtual forum was held on October 21, the day prior to the Tokyo Motor Show opening to the public, and the overall results were announced.
Toyota Metapolis created future car-based lifestyles from two perspectives: seamless mobility life and a car-based lifestyle in a low-carbon society.
A total of four virtual forums have been held, but Toyota will continue its initiatives for achieving prosperous mobility lifestyles while protecting the global environment.

A real-life event will be held at the same time as the final forum.
Toyota will show two videos at its booth at the Tokyo Motor Show depicting a future car-based lifestyle. A portion of the videos can be seen on Toyota’s website.
One of the two videos, created at Toyota Metapolis, proposes a seamless mobility life.
A person confirms the destination from home, exits the house and walks to the car, opens the door drives off. Upon arriving at the destination, the person stops the car in a parking lot and walks to the store . . .
Even in a casual car-based lifestyle, we can see that there are an unexpectedly large number of junctures. By using a new type of personal mobility (a one-person electric vehicle), these junctures can be eliminated, the joy of transport can be enhanced, and the scope of personal activity can be expanded. In this sense, the proposal is for a seamless car-based lifestyle.

The lifestyles depicted in this video can be experienced at Toyota Metapolis.
*Only a Japanese version of the video is available.
The second video proposes a car-based lifestyle in a low-carbon society.
A "low-carbon society" refers to a society that reduces emissions of CO2, which is a cause of global warming.
Various types of eco-cars that seek to diversify energy sources and reduce CO2 emissions have appeared in recent years.
What kind of vehicles will future eco-cars be? How will uses of automobiles change? The video does not focus on a single type of eco-car, but proposes the use of various eco-cars tailored to specific applications, and those that use renewable energy such as solar energy, wind power, and bio-fuels.
A car-based lifestyle in a low-carbon society is also partially created in Toyota Metapolis.
Toyota Metapolis is a three-dimensional, online virtual city that not only creates future car-based lifestyles based on discussion with customers but also holds a virtual Tokyo Motor Show.
Users can also purchase and drive vehicles that are currently available for sale and participate in frequently held events.
