Redesigned Sports Sedan Takes Driving Enjoyment to New Level
Toyota City, Japan, May 16, 2013—Lexus is rolling out its new "IS" sports sedan lineup today with the Japan-wide launch of the redesigned "IS 350" and "IS 250", and the introduction of the "IS 300h" hybrid to the lineup. Sales began today through Lexus dealers nationwide.

The completely redesigned IS lineup is the culmination of a new chapter in Lexus vehicle development that began in 2012 with the GS, the first vehicle to feature the Lexus signature spindle grille. In this new chapter, vehicles are being developed with the goal of achieving true driving joy, and for the new IS this means bringing the driving enjoyment and sporty styling essential for sports sedans to a new level.
The exterior design with spindle grille conveys a bold and sporty feel, while the interior is arranged and modeled to exude the intuitive handling of the IS. Maneuvering response and driving stability have been enhanced through the adoption of a new suspension layout and improved body rigidity made possible through new production engineering methods.
A new hybrid model, the IS 300h, expands the Lexus hybrid lineup and aims to embody the innovative spirit of Lexus by combining comfort, high performance, and class-leading1 environmental performance. The IS 300h achieves fuel efficiency of 23.2 km/L and CO2 emissions of 100 g/km under the Japanese MLIT2 JC08 test cycle.

Exceptional Intuitive Performance
New production methods such as laser screw welding, which achieves a finer pitch than conventional spot welding; and the use of structural adhesive, which integrates body surfaces and controls deflection, were implemented to increase body rigidity and provide exceptional maneuverability and driving stability.
The adoption of an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission in the IS 350 provides the smooth acceleration of a multi-speed automatic transmission as well as a sense of direct operation in the M-position, in which gears can shift in as little as 0.2 seconds.
F Sport offers exceptional driving performance that inherits the driving traits of the F series, of which the limited-run LFA3 supercar is the pinnacle. IS F Sport versions feature the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system that provides an electronically controlled smooth ride and outstanding handling together with an exclusively tuned suspension.
The IS 350 F Sport features the Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system that provides excellent driving stability at high speeds, superior agility at medium speeds and impressive maneuverability at low speeds.
In addition to exclusive exterior and interior designs, the F Sport features a movable instrument cluster with a design and structure inherited from the LFA, as well as new sport seats manufactured with a new "integrated foaming" manufacturing process for exceptional fit.
Eco, Normal, Sport S4 and Sport S+5 drive modes offer a range of driving responsiveness according to driver preference and driving circumstances. The Sport S+ mode provides the powertrain control of Sport S mode as well as allowing adjustment of chassis control attributes.
New IS 300h Hybrid
The newly developed hybrid system of the IS 300h combines a longitudinally mounted, 2.5-liter in-line, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine for rear-wheel-drive vehicles with a high-torque motor to achieve both exceptional environmental performance and the exhilarating handling typical of Lexus.
The next-generation D-4S (direct-injection four-stroke gasoline engine, superior version) fuel injection provides high fuel efficiency and high output, with the 2AR-FSE engine achieving a maximum thermal efficiency6 of 38.5 percent.
The IS 300h boasts class-leading fuel efficiency of 23.2 km/L and CO2 emissions of 100 g/km under the Japanese MLIT JC08 test cycle, exceeding the 2015 fuel efficiency standards by 20 percent and the 2005 standards of the MLIT approval system for low-emission vehicles by 75 percent7. The IS 300h is eligible for tax reductions under the Japanese government's tax incentive program for environment-friendly vehicles.
Placement of the hybrid battery has been optimized to allow the installation of 60:40 split rear-folding seats, thereby providing class-leading interior and cargo space.

Pure Lexus Sports Sedan Styling
The refined and individualistic front end features the Lexus signature spindle grill, which takes into consideration aerodynamic and cooling performance, and headlamps accented with independent L-shaped clearance lamps.
The side view conveys a nimble and dynamic form with a sharp presence and rocker lines that rise sharply as they extend from behind the front wheels to the rear.
Hemming processing8 has been used for the rear wheel arches to create a striking rear view.
A total of ten body colors are available including the new Sonic Titanium and the F Sport-exclusive White Nova Glass Flake.
The interior features a horizontally accented instrument panel to help maintain field of vision and ease determination of vehicle behavior, creating a sporty cockpit that allows the driver to focus on driving.
For enhanced comfort, the wheelbase was enlarged and the seat design improved to increase rear-seat legroom by 85 mm compared to earlier models.
State-of-the-Art Safety and Comfort
The IS features Lane Departure Alert (LDA), a system that alerts the driver with an audio and visual warning if it detects that the vehicle is drifting from its lane.
The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) assists the driver in changing lanes safely through the use of quasi-millimeter wave9 radar to detect vehicles in blind spots.
In the unfortunate event of a collision with a pedestrian, the pop-up hood, standard on all grades, instantaneously lifts the rear of the hood to mitigate impact force on the pedestrian's head.
The Pre-collision System with millimeter-wave radar features improved Pre-collision Brake Assist and Pre-collision Brakes to effectively mitigate damage in over 90 percent of rear-end collisions.
Electrostatic temperature control, another Lexus first, enables climate control with just the touch of a fingertip.
To enhance user convenience, a multi-information display located within the instrument cluster can be operated through the mouse-like Remote Touch interface to provide a variety of information in collaboration with the navigation system display, such as driving directions and audio system information.
